During the Artemis II mission, astronaut Jeremy Hansen shared with NASA’s Kelsey Young that the crew proposed naming certain lunar craters, which are visible to the naked eye and through telescopes, as a tribute. Among these features was a luminous spot on the Moon’s surface, which the team suggested calling ‘Carroll’ in honor of Reid Wiseman’s deceased spouse, Carroll Taylor Wiseman, who passed away from cancer in 2020 at 46.

“We wanted to give a nod to someone who meant a lot to us,” Hansen explained.
