He was doing the same thing,” Gilles stated.

“He had no remorse. The things he was doing to me hurt me so much, and left the biggest scar, and I will never – I will never be able to move on from this, no matter how hard I try.” Two additional women, speaking to CNN anonymously, confirmed they too experienced Epstein’s abuse at the Florida Science Foundation office.

Survivors described Epstein’s conduct as characteristically brazen during this period. Both at his West Palm Beach residence and at the office, he sometimes assaulted women while uniformed officers remained nearby—ostensibly monitoring the newly registered sex offender. At the Florida Science Foundation, rotating officers would position themselves near the entrance.

Two women recalled feeling that the officers seemed intimidated by Epstein. There was no question in their minds that Epstein held authority. For Gilles, her own encounter with what she believed was a sheriff’s officer occurred one morning at Epstein’s West Palm Beach mansion during the summer of 2009.

Gilles descended the stairs one morning and spotted the officer in the kitchen, feeling sudden hope. “I thought to myself, ‘Thank you, this is going to be the day that this all stops,'” she told CNN. She watched the officer exchange friendly words with Epstein before departing without acknowledging her.

“After I saw that sheriff, I understood that no matter what you do, this man is never going to be arrested,” Gilles said. “This man will never be stopped, and regardless of whether you scream and shout from the top of the universe, nobody would care.”
