Meanwhile, Mexico’s economy minister shared a video message on social media platforms, declaring that Mexico does not perceive any alteration in the effective tariff rate currently being charged to Mexican exports.

The newest tariff action emerges from an extensive investigation lasting several months conducted by the US Trade Representative. This probe examined claims that certain nations utilize forced labor in producing goods destined for American markets and failed to adequately address these practices. The updated rates cover imports from countries providing nearly every category of product the United States purchases internationally. Administration officials confirmed that various imports received exemptions, including oil and gas products alongside items unavailable through domestic sourcing.

Officials indicated that the rollout timing was deliberately chosen to prevent complications arising from stacking new levies atop the already-existing 10% duties.
