Watch: Reporter Told to Fabricate Domestic Abuse Claim to Remain in the UK

A BBC investigation uncovered a scheme where some migrants are creating false domestic abuse stories to retain their residency in the UK. This tactic leverages policies meant to support genuine victims of abuse. Legal professionals, including Eli Ciswaka, have been found to guide individuals in inventing such allegations. Ciswaka advised a BBC reporter to concoct a domestic abuse claim, promising £900 for the fabricated narrative to help the client maintain their status in the country. Although he declined to comment in writing, Ciswaka denied during a phone call that he intended to fabricate the story during the investigation.

“The misuse of domestic abuse rules is completely unacceptable, and those lawyers enabling this will face legal consequences,” stated Jess Phillips, the Home Office minister responsible for safeguarding.

Meanwhile, Lord Mandelson was released from police custody following his arrest on suspicion of public office misconduct. The Metropolitan Police confirmed his temporary release hours after his detention on Thursday, 19 February. He was taken to a Norfolk police station for questioning that day and later departed under investigation. Crowds and media gathered at a London Fashion Week event shortly after his arrest, with the King present amid the controversy surrounding his brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Unmarked vehicles were spotted arriving at Sandringham Estate, where the prince resides. Jonathan Dimbleby of BBC Newsnight noted that the King is “feeling the pain” of the scandal involving his sibling. Separately, a jury viewed footage of a cargo ship colliding with an oil tanker, causing an explosion that resulted in a fatality. Queen Camilla commended the bravery of John and Amy Hunt, whose family was tragically killed in 2023. The ice-skating pair, renowned for their 1984 Olympic gold, were recognized for their courage.

Richard Davies and Faye Stevenson-Davies, who first won the lottery in 2018, triumphed once more in a recent draw. The head of Britain’s foreign intelligence service highlighted an intricate network of security threats. A car once featured in a James Bond film, which had deteriorated to the point where children used it as play equipment, has been renovated and now holds a value of £1 million. King Charles III honored the nation’s war dead by placing a wreath at a London monument.

A news segment was interrupted on Thursday as the scandal unfolded. The prince had previously spoken to BBC Newsnight’s Emily Maitlis in 2019 about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. Sky Roberts shared that the family is experiencing a mix of emotions following the prince’s decision to relinquish his titles.
