Chalamet thanked by Royal Ballet and Opera boss for boosting ticket sales
Chalamet Commended by Royal Ballet and Opera Director for Boosting Sales
Royal Ballet and Opera (RBO) director Alex Beard praised Hollywood actor Timothée Chalamet for revitalizing interest in the London-based arts organization. Following Chalamet’s remarks that sparked debate, Beard noted the actor’s comments generated significant public engagement, ultimately increasing ticket sales. “His statement led to a remarkable surge in audience interaction,” Beard remarked in a recent interview with The Times.
Actor’s Comments Sparked Mixed Reactions
Timothée Chalamet’s February comments, during a conversation with Matthew McConaughey at the University of Texas, ignited controversy. He suggested that ballet and opera might struggle to remain relevant, saying,
“no one still pays attention to ballet or opera anymore.”
However, he quickly clarified,
“All respect to all the ballet and opera people out there.”
Seattle Opera Leverages the Controversy
Chalamet’s remarks became a catalyst for creative marketing. The Seattle Opera incorporated his words into a promotional campaign for an upcoming Carmen performance, offering a discount with the code “TIMOTHEE” for selected tickets. “Timmy, you’re welcome to use it too,” the opera house added, inviting him to participate in the event.
RBO Defends Pricing Strategy
During the same interview, Beard addressed the RBO’s pricing changes. “Our approach isn’t full-on dynamic pricing,” he explained. “Prices remain fixed during the priority-booking phase and the initial weeks of public sales. There’s a cap on premium tickets, ensuring affordability for others.” He argued that this method helps stabilize lower-price tiers while maintaining accessibility.
