FBI Director Kash Patel Hacked by Pro-Iranian Group as Personal Photos Surface Online

A pro-Iranian hacking collective claims to have breached the digital account of FBI Director Kash Patel following the unauthorized release of his private images and files. The breach exposed years-old photographs, including a professional curriculum vitae, and other personal records, many of which date back over a decade.

“Kash Patel, the current head of the FBI, who once saw his name displayed with pride on the agency’s headquarters, will now find his name among the list of successfully hacked victims.”

The FBI confirmed awareness of malicious actors targeting Director Patel’s personal email data and stated that measures were taken to address the risk. The agency clarified that the released information is historical and does not include any classified government data.

A DOJ representative told Reuters the material appeared genuine. Among the leaked images were photos of Patel beside an antique sports car and another showing him with a cigar in hand. These details suggest the breach targeted his private life rather than official operations.

Handala, a pro-Iranian and pro-Palestinian hacking group, also claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on Stryker, a Michigan-based medical technology firm. The group cited U.S. military strikes that they alleged killed Iranian schoolchildren as their motive for the action.

Handala was specifically identified by the Justice Department in a recent announcement about seizing four web domains linked to Iranian cyber operations. The timing of the infiltration remains unclear, though Patel was reportedly notified of the attack in December 2024 as part of a broader Iranian hacking campaign.
