Man Who Threw Girlfriend From Tower Block Jailed
Jordan Herring, a 22-year-old from Solihull, received a five-year prison sentence after throwing his girlfriend from the fourth floor of a tower block. The incident occurred at Merton House in Chelmsley Wood during November 2022, according to police. Herring was also convicted of coercive and controlling behavior toward the 18-year-old victim, Bobbie Goodman, in a prior trial.
Goodman sustained severe injuries when she fell from Herring’s mother’s flat on the fourth floor. Emergency services were called more than an hour after the attack, and she was airlifted to hospital with a collapsed lung and fractures to her pelvis, spine, and ribs. The trauma left her bedridden for a month and requiring wheelchair use for several additional weeks.
“It was very dehumanising,” Goodman told the BBC. “I couldn’t move, couldn’t walk, couldn’t wash myself. I really thought I might never walk again.” She expressed deep resentment toward Herring, stating, “He’s ruined my life in so many ways. He’s made me not want to trust another man ever again. But I hope someday, I will.”
On the night of the incident, Herring’s mother made a frantic 999 call, describing her fear that her son might harm the victim with a knife. “I couldn’t call the ambulance,” she said. “I should’ve done it ages ago but he’s my son.” The delay in seeking help was highlighted by the jury, who were told the emergency services were summoned over an hour after the fall.
During the trial, Herring described their relationship as “toxic” and claimed the attack followed an argument about cheating. Officers emphasized their ongoing support for Goodman and praised her courage in sharing her experiences of abuse. The case concluded with Herring receiving a total of five years for both wounding and coercive behavior charges.
