Eamonn Holmes recovering in hospital after stroke
Eamonn Holmes in Hospital Following Stroke
GB News has revealed that veteran broadcaster Eamonn Holmes is receiving treatment in a hospital after suffering a stroke. The channel shared that Holmes “was unwell last week” and “subsequently diagnosed with a stroke.” A spokesperson added that he is “making progress in his recovery” and noted that his colleagues at GB News are “sending good wishes for a quick return to health.”
Career Overview
Holmes, 66, has spent over 30 years in television, transitioning between major networks throughout his career. He began his journey on UTV’s Good Evening Ulster before moving to GMTV, which launched in January 1993, where he stayed until 2005. Later, he co-hosted Sky News’ Sunrise program and joined ITV’s This Morning alongside his wife, Ruth Langsford, in 2010. In 2024, the couple announced their split, with a representative stating they are “finalizing the divorce process.”
Recent Health Struggles
Before this incident, Holmes had already navigated several health hurdles. These included spinal surgery, a double hip replacement, and challenges with mobility, which he addressed using a scooter. His most recent role at GB News, since 2022, involves co-hosting the breakfast show with Ellie Costello. For the upcoming week, Alex Armstrong will temporarily take his place on air.
“Holmes is a cherished member of our team,” said GB News CEO Angelos Frangopoulos, highlighting his impact on the network.
Understanding Strokes
As per NHS guidelines, a stroke occurs when blood supply to a brain area is disrupted, leading to potential neurological damage. Symptoms may include facial asymmetry, arm weakness, and speech impairments. Prompt medical care is critical to minimize long-term effects.
Holmes was recognized with an OBE in the 2018 New Year’s Honours List for his service to the broadcasting industry. His current hospitalization marks another chapter in a career that has left a lasting legacy in media.
