Four Teens Arrested in Connection with Fatal Stabbing of 16-Year-Old Boy

Cambridgeshire Police confirmed the arrest of four teenagers following the death of a 16-year-old boy who was stabbed and later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The incident was reported just before 19:00 BST on Sunday at Riseholme, a neighborhood close to the Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough. Detectives have indicated that the attack was not random, prompting the nearby St John’s Church School to close temporarily due to a “serious incident.”

A 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, both residents of Peterborough, were charged with murder. Two additional teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of assisting the perpetrator. The 16-year-old girl from March also faces charges of possessing a bladed object. All suspects are currently in police custody.

“This tragic event has led to the loss of a young man’s life, and we’re in touch with his family, providing regular updates,” stated Det Ch Insp Richard Stott, who leads the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit. “While the death will be worrying for locals, we believe the attack was targeted, with intensified police presence anticipated in the area for the next several days.”

An email shared with the BBC revealed that St John’s Church School in Peterborough decided to close because “police are currently processing a site near the school.” A photograph captured a substantial police force gathered near the Ortongate Shopping Centre on Sunday evening, with a significant cordon still in place on Monday. Increased patrols are expected in the coming days.

Flowers have been placed near the cordon area. The school stated it will “keep monitoring the situation” and provide updates regarding the possibility of reopening. Meanwhile, the shopping centre remains open, though the rear car park is closed.
