Woman Accused of Shooting at Rihanna’s L.A. Home Charged with Attempted Murder

Los Angeles County prosecutors announced Tuesday that Ivanna Ortiz, a 35-year-old Florida resident, faces charges of attempted murder after opening fire on the home of pop star Rihanna in the Beverly Crest neighborhood. Ortiz is also accused of 10 counts of assault involving a semiautomatic firearm and three felony charges for targeting inhabited dwellings, including a nearby camping trailer, according to the district attorney’s office.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday afternoon, involved an AR-15-style rifle. Neighbors reported spotting a woman wearing a wig and driving a white Tesla near Rihanna’s residence before gunfire erupted. Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell noted that the gate, the Airstream trailer, and the neighboring home all showed signs of being hit by bullets.

“When an individual comes into our community and decides to shoot it up, that individual will be arrested and held fully accountable for her actions,” said District Attorney Nathan Hochman during a press briefing outside the downtown courthouse.

Ortiz was taken into custody peacefully during a traffic stop, where officers discovered the rifle, spent casings, and a blonde wig inside her vehicle. Additional ammunition and a 30-round magazine were found in the trunk. She invoked her right to counsel and made no statements during the arrest.

Hochman revealed the charges are linked to 10 victims: Rihanna, her partner A$AP Rocky, their three children, three household staff members, and two individuals at a neighboring residence also targeted. No injuries were reported, though the incident included multiple inhabited dwellings. A court hearing was held Tuesday, with Ortiz’s arraignment set for later this month.

Her bail was set at $1.875 million, and she could face life imprisonment if convicted. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation. State records indicate a woman by the same name is a licensed speech-language pathologist in Florida, currently employed. An arrest affidavit referenced a 2023 incident of violence in her divorce, noting she allegedly sent a text to her ex-husband warning, “You’ll be socked on the nose tonight,” and a cellphone video showed her using a homophobic slur during the confrontation.
